Technology Night at Opelika Middle School - April 13, 2010

Each year Opelika Middle School hosts a techology night for parents to visit the classrooms and see what types of technology we are using in our classrooms. This year the Science, Math, Technology, Exploratory, PE, and Special Education departments highlighted what tools are being utilized in their classrooms.

As a part of this technology night, the principles of UDL were introduced to parents by sharing this website. We emphasized how teachers are teaching ALL students and planning ways to include all students in all aspects of a lesson. We shared the following tools:

CleverKeys- To be used for students with reading disabilities or difficulties and students with limited English Language skills.

Virtual Magnifier- To be used by any student with visual difficulties or disabilities.

Book Share- Audio books to be used for students with reading difficulties in place of some of the Accelerated Reader
books.

CAST Book Builder- An alternative means of demonstrating mastery of a skill by a student or a teacher presenting a lesson with embedded supports for all students.

Science Writer- An alternative to writing lab reports in journal notebooks for all students with embedded supports.
